Can I simply buy a car on the island of La Palma?

Volker Horch: In principle, yes. The only requirement is that you have an address where the vehicle can be registered. This can be a property title deed, a rental agreement, or a certificate of registration on the municipal register (empadronamiento). If you do not have Spanish nationality, you will also need a NIE (Número de Identidad de Extranjero).

What about insurance? Do I have to arrange that as well?

Volker Horch: In order for a vehicle to be driven on the road, it must have at least third-party liability insurance. At Palminvest, we will be happy to assist you with this. We work with the local Allianz agency (Allianz La Palma), so we can ensure that you receive first-class service.
